Maximizing Efficiency Through Google Search

The purpose of this module is to maximize efficiency through Google Search by helping users identify and utilize advanced features within the interface. Being able to narrow the focus of one’s search not only saves time but provides additional context to the results. The .PDF outlines a series of activities that learners must navigate as they work to improve the quality of their searches within a live browser in order to answer specific prompts. The incorporation of screenshots provides a visual scaffold to aid in locating little-known settings that when properly leveraged, may enhance the overall user experience of conducting a Google search.

While I have worked with search engines for nearly a decade, I realize that not everybody may have this same level of understanding. This module encouraged me to explore the various ways that individuals may reach the same destination, through sharing insights into my own path. Given the dynamic nature of technology and frequent changes to the Google Search interface, this document will likely require regular updates to remain relevant, however, the fundamental practice of finding the most accurate information based off of articulating questions and search queries remain a crucial skill in self-directed learning.

Along with the widespread development of fake news, individuals must be prepared to take on the responsibilities that come with being a digital citizen by bringing increased value and legitimacy to online experiences. The continued proliferation of technology ensures that digital literacy will be the price of admission required to participate and access a growing number of connected platforms and resources.
